This sterling silver runic ring binds together the elements which Vikings believed made a complete person.

Where do you find balance? A personal unity?  The Vikings had an answer to this question. They came from a time when people looked into their hearts for answers, and told myths to express what they saw there.

The runic inscription on this ring names the four elements that, in Norse heathen tradition, make the balanced person.

HAMR - your shape or physical form. For some people this could be more than just human. They told of shapeshifters who could take the form of wolves or bears, or water spirits such as selkies or swans.

HUGR - Within each of us is the spirit of a person, our personality, the mind or soul. With those with the skill, the hugr is not confined to the body, but can travel in the worlds of the spirit.

HAMINGJA - A person's luck personified.  The hamingja can be seen by those with the second sight. It has independent will and, under some circumstances, might even leave a person.

FYLGJA - A link with your ancestors, a female guardian spirit who appears in dreams with warnings and advice. She come to you from your forebears and, after your death, passes on to a new family member.

SAMAN - The last word saman - together - binds the four elements as one whole. A unity of powers, a strength through balance.

      HAMR  HUGR  HAMI(N)GJA  FYLGJA  SAMAN

Body, spirit, luck, ancestral protection, together
