We know of many depictions of a Viking woman holding a drinking horn, often interpreted as a Valkyrie. It is also common as a type of pendant. My small woman pendant is modelled on these. The valkyries welcomed the slain warrior to Valhalla, as we can see on some of the picture stones, and that is the usual interpretation of these figures. However it could just as easily be a symbol of the woman as hostess, greeting her guest with the traditional welcome cup: a proud viking woman, mistress of the hearth.

      Really nice pendant!

The pendant has found its place on my fibula chain. I got it as a gift from a very dear person. Every time I look at it, I think of my birthday twin!

Ah birthday twins are important! Thanks Doris
