Many examples of the cross have been found from Viking Age Scandinavia. My Viking cross is based on a common type being produced in Byzantium, but spread throughout Viking countries. I follow the original form, except for one major difference; the crosses from Byzantium always show Christ without a beard. However, when the vikings produced crucifixes of their own, they felt it was right to give the son of God a beard, like a proper Viking man. So I have also added a beard to my viking cross, copying the face from a small filigree crucifix found in Trondheim in Norway.
