Gokstad Viking Belt
-
Description
My Gokstad Viking Belt Set is taken from one of the most famous Viking burials. At the end of the ninth century a viking chieftain died in battle and was buried with full honour in a ship beneath a mound at Gokstad in Norway. From this rich burial comes this buckle set, which I have copied in its original dimensions. The viking belt lives again. It has a heavy buckle decorated in the Borre style, with an intricately worked belt loop and strap end.
The original strap end had a bronze plate rivetted on the back. I have simplified this with internal rivets (spikes) that can be bent over to fix it in place.
Takes strap width 38mm (1 ½ inches). Strap end length 68mm (2 5/8 inches)
Weight of Sterling Silver set 120g (Weight may vary from piece to piece)
If you want your buckle set put on a belt, see the Viking belt at the start of this Belt Fittings section.
