I have copied this nail cleaner from a find from a Viking woman's grave excavated in Denmark. I have changed the form of the blade slightly, but the little raven that sits on top is exactly the same as the original. Although a simple object for daily use, this nail cleaner was found hanging on a silver chain in a very wealthy burial. The chain itself was pinned to a round silver brooch. The raven would clearly have had some significance for the lady. For the Vikings, the raven was a symbol of wisdom and the power of the mind. The raven could act as a spirit guide to the Otherworld. Odin's ravens Huginn and Muninn brought him news in his endless search for wisdom.
