Viking Strap Divider from Gotland

    • Description

This ring was used as a strap divider, a type produced by Viking craftsmen on Gotland. It could be used either on a belt or on horse harness. It could be used to join a sword or a pouch to a belt, adding that extra metallic gleam that the Vikings valued. The Borre style knot dates it to the mid-9th to mid-10th centuries. The heavy design and raised dome shape ensures that this piece of extra bling really stands out
